POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Mechanical Supervisor for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objectives are to:

  • Implement the department’s preventative and predictive maintenance program in addition to ensuring that planning, scheduling, troubleshooting and installation works on all plant mechanical systems are adequately and efficiently executed.
  • Direct, control and supervise all maintenance activities performed by the technicians in accordance with sound engineering maintenance and safety standards.
  • Coordinate activities to ensure the reliability, efficiency and availability of plant systems and equipment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES / KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure the equipment maintenance programs for plant systems are conducted in accordance with established maintenance procedures.
  • Leads the execution of maintenance activities during turnarounds, overhaul and repair programs in accordance with accepted standards for all associated mechanical equipment minimizing downtime, while ensuring HSEQ and production targets are met.
  • Provide technical guidance in the development of inspection overhaul and repair procedures in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer, accepted industry standard and practices.
  • Ensure that technicians and contracted staff adhere to the Work Management System and that the Computerized Maintenance Management System is accurately updated to capture real time information and historical data.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the maintenance programs and make recommendations for improvement accordingly.
  • Support in the preparation of LTP and annual budget implementing cost control practice consistent with the company objectives.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of all available resources, in-house and contractors in the execution of maintenance works on the facilities.
  • Review plant equipment maintenance projections and schedules making recommendations for optimization as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent line of communication with other Plant Personnel on all matters related to Maintenance activities.
  • Interfaces with lead contractor representatives to ensure effective contract administration and execution.
  • Reviews mechanical equipment stock of critical spares, consumables etc. in relation to maintenance work schedules and make recommendations to minimize stock outs while optimizing cost.
  • Manage all mechanical tools and lifting equipment within the guidelines of the company policy.
  • Manage all site lifting through the coordination of lift plans and supervising lifts as required.
  • Manage all mechanical related documents ensuring they are the most up-to-date.
  • Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved and addresses areas of shortfall.
  • Ensure that the planning of CAP and NON-CAP activities spanning a 1Q horizon are adequately conducted.
  • Interact and provide the support to the planning team with respect to equipment long term planning (> 1Q), obsolescence/end of life, STA, major repair and replacement actions.
  • Manage employees’ absence (emergency, business, sick leave) and punctuality, implementing the annual vacation schedule as required.
  • Develop training matrix for direct reports and identify enhancements to the competency assessment system in light of technology/process changes.
  • Conduct performance reviews of plant personnel under his supervision regularly and provide feedback and guidance to enable their development and improve performance opportunities for plant personnel under his supervision.
  • Promote harmonious work relations among plant personnel, maintenance and process engineering disciplines to ensure optimal utilization of all available resources to improve plant performance.     
  • Recommends promotions, acting appointments and developmental opportunities of team members.
  • Provide technical supervision to the maintenance technicians to ensure the reliability and availability of plant systems and equipment.        
  • Ensure that the interface among the technicians, operations and other support groups are seamless.
  • Prepares technical, monthly and other reports as required.
  • Participates in HSE/trip investigations, job hazard analyses and prepares the related reports as necessary tracking department actions as required.
  • Execute designated HSE responsibilities as stated in the Risk Manual to ensure safety on the plant facility.
  • Ensure technicians comply with the specified HSE regulations while on the plant.
  • Conduct safety walks, safety meetings and housekeeping inspections as scheduled.
  • Execute responsibilities as designated in the permit to work system.
  • Ensure compliance with all ISO Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of technicians on the plant.
  • Ensure that all Company’s policies and procedures as defined in the HR Policies and Procedures Manuals are implemented and consistently followed.
  • Perform all other related job functions as required.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION:

  • An Associate in Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Technology (COSTAATT) OR Technician’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience, at least three (3) of which must be at the supervisory level.

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of high speed rotating equipment, particularly turbomachinery utilizing dry gas sealing systems.
  • Knowledge of static equipment maintenance and inspection techniques as well as lifting/rigging practices.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to apply maintenance concepts, theories and practices to resolve operational issues. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of plant equipment and performance history.
  • Acute troubleshooting and problem solving skill.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement to make quick, accurate and safe decision in response to emergencies and abnormal situations.
  • Knowledge of process plant maintenance, design, operations and project management in the petrochemical industry.
  • Ability to apply maintenance concepts, theories and practices to resolve operational issues. 
  • Knowledge in Process Safety Management and ISO quality systems
